One Step Back…

Considering the backdrop of national news right now, our kitchen remodel setbacks are very, very minor. But there have been a few, and thus we haven’t been able to install cabinets as quickly as we’d hoped. However, we did finally hang the first set of wall cabinets today, and we got our first appliance delivered!

As Sara started painting and project-managing the next phase, a few earlier mistakes surfaced: 1) we asked for the wrong wiring for the under-cabinet lighting we’d chosen; 2) some miscommunication between us resulted in the installation of regular drywall instead of cement board for supporting a tile backsplash; 3) the primer got applied badly and started peeling off; and 4) somehow we missed the fact that one corner of the floor slopes down a full inch over a distance of only four feet (not great for leveling cabinets). Ultimately these are all fixable one way or another, even if it means we have to change a few details in our plans.

Anyway, we’d hoped to give a more exciting update by this point in time, but it turns out that putting new things together requires more precision and attention to detail than tearing out old stuff! Who’da thunk it!
